🦬 Two Bison Calves Born at Lone Elk Park
Two bison calves were born overnight on May 6th at Lone Elk Park in Valley Park. Park officials report that both mothers and calves are doing well. The drive-through wildlife park remains open daily from early morning until shortly before sunset even with the new mothers and their young out and about.
🦟 County Launches Mosquito Prevention Plan
Recent rainfall has created favorable conditions for mosquito breeding in our area. The Department of Health's Vector Control Center has been applying larvicide to standing water throughout the region for the past six weeks. Officials are recommending using EPA-approved repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and removing standing water from your property to reduce mosquito populations.
🛣️ Armadillo Numbers Rising on MO Roads
Missouri highways are seeing a rise in armadillo roadkill, particularly south and west of St. Louis. The Missouri Department of Conservation links this trend to warmer weather increasing insect activity, which attracts hungry armadillos. These nine-banded creatures have steadily expanded across the state since the 1850s.
⚽ Creve Coeur Fields Target June Reopening
Reconstruction efforts continue at Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex following March's tornado damage. County officials report nearly $8 million in damages affected all 13 turf fields, goals, and lighting systems. Repair crews are working to meet a June 11 deadline when a major tournament is scheduled. Insurance is covering the repairs, while County Executive Dr. Sam Page has proposed spending $1 million on LED lighting upgrades.
🎭 Disney Show Featuring St. Louis in Revival
Milldy interesting: Disney's animated series "Phineas and Ferb" is being revived after ending in 2015. The new season includes an episode set in St. Louis featuring the character Meap, an intergalactic security agent.

🛒 Schnucks Campaign Supports Military Families
Schnucks has launched its eighth annual "Round Up at the Register" campaign supporting Folds of Honor. From now through May 27, shoppers at all area locations can round up purchases to the nearest dollar to fund educational scholarships for families of fallen and disabled military and first responders. Last year's campaign raised $200,000, funding 40 scholarships.
🏞️ Historic 170-Acre La Salle Retreat Center For Sale
The La Salle Retreat Center is now for sale after serving the community for 139 years. The property requires nearly $1 million in repairs that the aging Christian Brothers congregation cannot fund. With only 86 Brothers remaining (average age 76), the Midwest District has listed the 170-acre property while keeping it operational through 2027.
🍺 New Brewery Opening in Wildwood
Good News Brewing Company is opening its fifth location in Wildwood at the former West County Feed & Supply building. The 2,000-square-foot space includes a greenhouse area and outdoor patio. The brewery will offer craft beer, wood-fired pizza, and space for live music. Community members are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony this Friday (5/16) at 4pm.

🍩 Cops Perch for a Purpose
The Ballwin Police Department is participating in the nationwide "Cops on a Rooftop" fundraiser this Friday (5/16). Officers will be stationed on top of the Dunkin' Donuts at 14924 Manchester Road from 6am to noon, collecting donations for Special Olympics Missouri. Residents can meet local officers while supporting this important cause.

🏆 Eureka Associate Principal Wins Award
Eureka High School associate principal Sarah Goodman has received regional recognition. The 37-year-old Wildwood resident was surprised with the Assistant Principal of the Year award during a school assembly on April 3. Goodman returned to Eureka this year after previously teaching English there for 12 years and serving as assistant principal at Rockwood Summit High School for three years.

🌱 Manchester's Plastic Pursuit Hits 219 Lbs
Manchester's Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge has collected 219 pounds of materials through April in the program's third year. The community initiative aims to reach 1,000 pounds by year's end, which would earn the city a bench made from recycled plastics. Residents can drop off grocery bags at City Hall, the Justice Center, or the Parks Building.

🍩 Cops Take to Twin Oaks Dunkin' Rooftop
Police are participating in Dunkin’ Donuts’ national fundraising initiative this Friday (5/16) in Twin Oaks. St. Louis County Police officers will be stationed at the Twin Oaks Dunkin' Donuts from 6am to noon for the annual "Cop on a Rooftop" fundraiser. Community members can visit 1410 Big Bend Road to support Special Olympics Missouri and meet local officers.

🎸 Wildwood Concert Series Kicks Off Friday
This Friday (5/16) marks the start of Wildwood's summer soundtrack. Fat Pocket will open the Music on Main concert series from 6:45-9:15pm at Wildwood Town Center, with three more monthly shows to follow through August 15.
