🦅 World Bird Sanctuary Celebrates Falcon Release
The World Bird Sanctuary recently released a rare Merlin falcon back into the wild after it was found critically injured, likely due to a window collision. The sanctuary's Kathryn G. Favre Foundation Raptor Hospital nursed the falcon back to health, and it was released at Route 66 State Park in Eureka, on 314 Day. Read the full story here.
🏡 Backyards Disappearing in Ballwin Neighborhood
Residents in a Ballwin neighborhood are growing increasingly concerned as erosion eats away at their backyards. Today’s upcoming rain and storms could exacerbate the issue, with a once-small creek now spanning 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep. MSD has identified this as one of 500 stormwater improvement projects they’d like to tackle if Prop S passes in tomorrow’s election. Watch KMOV’s full report here.
🏃♂️ Charity Walk Strides Toward Addiction Support
On Friday morning, a determined group of early risers participated in a 15-mile charity walk from Ballwin’s Fit Body Boot Camp to Warson Woods. The event, now in its second year, raised funds for The Next Step STL, a non-profit providing financial assistance to individuals in 12-step recovery programs for alcohol or substance use disorders. Last year's walk raised $6,000, and this year's efforts have already surpassed $16,000, with proceeds supporting tuition assistance for those in recovery. Read more here.
🚨 2.8 Magnitude Earthquake Jolted STL Region Last Week
Last Thursday a surprising 2.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the St. Louis area at 6:55pm. Hundreds of residents have reported feeling the tremors, which originated from a depth of about 14 miles below ground near Germantown, Illinois. The USGS confirmed the quake and noted its proximity to the New Madrid Fault Zone, reminding us of the potential for larger seismic events in the region.
