👮 Local Police Recognized for Road Safety
West County law enforcement officers were among 133 recognized last Thursday night by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The annual awards dinner took place at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, honoring officers for their impaired driving enforcement work.
🏆 Marquette Student Wins Metro West Scholarship
Metro West Fire Protection District awarded its annual scholarship to Marquette High's David Moss. The $2,000 prize recognizes students who write about their values and how they'll impact their communities. Firefighters surprised Moss with the news at school in front of family and classmates.

💰 County Gives UMSL $10M for Demolition
St. Louis County has allocated $10 million to demolish six outdated buildings on UMSL's south campus. The demolished area will become the "North St. Louis County Business and Workforce District" featuring childcare facilities, restaurants, and grocery stores.
⛈️ Storm Downs Hundreds of Park Trees
Last Friday's tornado caused extensive damage to Forest Park, downing hundreds of trees and blocking walking paths with debris. The Saint Louis Zoo even closed down through Sunday after storm damage, including a breached butterfly dome that allowed some butterflies to escape. Officials estimate over $500,000 in losses from the closure and cleanup costs.

⚾ Schnucks Offers Cardinals Suite Tickets

🌿 Shaw Nature Reserve Marks 100th Year
The Shaw Nature Reserve just west of West County in Gray Summit is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Originally purchased in 1925 by the Missouri Botanical Garden to protect plants from St. Louis industrial smog, the Franklin County site now features 18 miles of hiking trails, native prairies, forests, and educational programs for visitors.

🏊 North Pointe Opens Saturday
Ballwin's North Pointe Aquatic Center like other area pools opens for the season on Saturday (5/24). The pool will operate seven days a week from 11:30am to 7:30pm throughout the summer. Friday hours will extend until 9pm during July, with August 1st also featuring the extended schedule. Pool passes are currently available for purchase. Learn more online here.

🚛 Free Debris Collection After Storm
Chesterfield has declared a local emergency after last Friday's storm . City maintenance crews will be driving through neighborhoods in days to come multiple times to collect storm debris. Residents should place tree limbs directly at the curb without bags or bundling for the free pickup service.

🚧 Creve Coeur Marks Public Works Week
Creve Coeur is observing National Public Works Week through May 24th. The annual event recognizes public works employees who maintain city infrastructure and respond to weather emergencies.

Eureka
🔧 Eureka HS Unveils Renovated Metal Shop
Eureka High School's metal shop reopened in January after a complete renovation. The district spent $528,000 on the project, which includes 12 welding booths with professional-grade equipment like plasma cutters and water-jet tables. Students demonstrated the new tools during an open house in May, showing off capabilities that were previously unavailable in the old space.

🛠️ Manchester Celebrates Public Works Team
Manchester is observing Public Works Appreciation Week through May 24. The city is recognizing the Public Works Department employees who maintain roads, sidewalks, and city infrastructure. The department handles street maintenance, environmental safety, and capital improvement projects throughout the year.
