St. Louis County's senior property tax freeze, approved 10 months ago, hangs in the balance as the county council debates funding. Councilman Ernie Trakas will present a bill next week to add $600,000, aiming to kickstart the program. The Department of Revenue has yet to accept applications, leaving seniors in limbo as they face increasing financial strain.

🩺 Health Dept. Warns of Mosquito-Borne Threat

The St. Louis County Health Department has confirmed the presence of West Nile virus (WNV) in local mosquitoes, marking the first instance this season. As the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the U.S., WNV can cause symptoms such as fever and body aches in some infected individuals. Health officials are urging residents to take precautions, including using insect repellent and eliminating standing water around their homes.

The La Salle Retreat Center is seeking the public's help to recover from severe storm damage. Volunteers are needed this Sunday from noon onward to aid in cutting and stacking fallen trees, clearing debris, replacing ceiling tiles, repairing plaster, and fixing washouts in gravel lots. The center's small staff is overwhelmed and deeply appreciates any assistance.
